“The Horse’s Mouth” – Training Talent

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/395572362″][vc_column_text]Welcome to “The Horse’s Mouth” with Tom McManus, a unique talk show where guests belly up to the bar to discuss business, technology, marketing, and life. No gossip, no hearsay, no BS, just the truth, straight from the source.

This week, Tom spoke with Mike White from BluHorn, Wendy Norfleet from Norfleet Integrated Solutions, James Lampke from Robert Half Technology, Dr. Ravi Raheja from Triagelogic, and Barry Milligan from PGA Tour Superstores about hiring and training talent that well help your business excel.

Talent can be a major issue in businesses, how do you properly train your talent and keep them with you?

Wendy Norfleet

I’ve been very fortunate that the contractors I’ve had have stayed with me since the beginning. I do bulk purchasing with software which allows my contractors to keep the tools. That’s very valuable and it is an added benefit.

James Lampke

I think it boils down to two things. I think it boils down to proper education and interests at the right age. You have to catch people at a young age and establish that interest early on. You need to know your community well and know what people connect with in order to not only find and grow your talent but also retain your talent. You need to ask yourself if the way you are managing your business matches where you are geographical.

Dr. Ravi Raheja

A lot of people retention depends on them feeling that they’re doing something meaningful and useful. You can sit behind a computer and just program all day long but there’s no purpose. Somebody else will pay you to do that. Your employees should feel that they are really making a difference. Every person in your company is a piece of the puzzle that feeds into the bigger picture.

Barry Milligan

Technology plays a major part in my company and our talent has the ability to interpret the data from the technology we use for fittings and practicing and communicate it properly to the people in our stores. It’s important to maintain a great culture and a cool place to work as well to keep that talent with you.

Mike White

BluHorn is a national SaaS company. We have media buyers and planners who use our software. We’ve hired a lot of military spouses and stay at home moms that have had a career but they’ve got kids. We have found a great opportunity to work with these people who work from home, they are efficient and love what they do. Oftentimes they are even more efficient than someone who comes into the office. They are doing the job right and they are getting it done.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
